Chenille Quilt

This is my chenille quilt - I had made a chenille bag but wanted to try something a bit bigger and more adventurous. I used plain muslin for my base layers and then used a quilt basting spray to baste the maple leaves and squares onto the top layer before stitching. The borders are layed over the muslin in the same way - you can see the effect of the double layers of brown border fabric in the corners of the quilt - it is darker. I also used a layer of cotton batting between the first two layers to give it more substance. The whole lot was then loaded on point onto my longarm machine and machined using the straight line channel lock. It was an interesting challenge and I certainly learned a few lessons from it - the main one being when you roll the quilt on you need to pack out the take up roller with batting to make it even as it gets wider. The last picture shows it before it was washed. One thing I would recommend to anyone that is planning to do any chenille work is to buy a chenille cutter - makes life so much easier!
